Tex McDorman was born and raised in Brownwood, Texas. As a young man, he spent many hours tending a ranch, riding bulls and roundin’ up rattlesnakes. Tex’s artistic talents were recognized early as he could be found pinstriping cars during his lunch hour in high school. As demand for his work grew, he set up a small shop at his home.
After completing high school, Tex joined the Navy to see the world. Tex was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia, as his first duty station. Fortunately, he brought his paint box with him. His talents did not go unnoticed. Senior personnel had seen the artwork he had done on a door in his workspace and the requests poured in. Soon he was painting large murals on the bulkheads, designing various graphics and hand-lettering office doors. His artwork was in such high demand, the Commanding officer gave him a room on the ship to set up his "paint shop". Having painted nearly everything on the ship, Tex moved his pallet to aircraft. To this day, aircraft bearing his artwork are patrolling the skies.
When on the shore, Tex continued his passion for painting. From Harleys to hot rods, bicycles to buildings, and helmets to helicopters, he did it all. In 1991, after serving ten years, Tex left the Navy and opened "Tex’s Sign Shop" in Chesapeake, Virginia. His reputation among motorsport enthusiasts was well established. Locals knew he was the man to seek out for custom paint work.
Through sheer word of mouth, Tex has become recognized nationally. He holds a NASCAR license and has designed and painted helmets for several Nascar drivers. He has done custom paint jobs on Harleys for Hollywood stars and corporate CEO’s.
Currently Tex's shop "Texefx" is located in Sanger, Texas. The relocation back to Texas has been an enourmous blessing and he has never looked back. He is still custom painting and pinstriping and traveling to major events across the country. He also has become an announcer for Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam and travels the country giving the Monster Jam fans blow by blow descriptoins of the action.
